Half of the globe apart, still good neighbors: Xi Jinping's affinity with Latin America Cultural exchanges between China and Peru enjoy a time-honored history. Over 400 years ago, Chinese explorers braved the Pacific, opening up the maritime Silk Road. Since then, exchanges have flourished, with many Chinese immigrants settling in Peru. Today, Peru is home to over 3 million Chinese descendants.
Founded in 1989, APEC was designed to foster economic growth and facilitate free trade and investment across the Asia-Pacific region. Throughout the years, thanks to the joint efforts of its members, the Asia-Pacific region has served as a vital engine of the world economy, driving what Xi has called "the Asia-Pacific miracle."
