Chronicle of Events in Drug Control in Guizhou (After the People’s Republic of China was founded) (7)

2002
February 25 The provincial-level drug control teleconference was held in Guiyang. Wang Zhengfu, vice governor and deputy director of Guizhou Drug Control Commission, Jiang Yanhu, secretary of Guizhou Politics and Law Commission, deputy director of Guizhou Drug Control Commission, and head of Guizhou Public Security Department, and Li Xianhui, deputy secretary of Guizhou Politics and Law Commission and deputy secretary of Guizhou Drug Control Commission, attended the meeting. Peng Dequan, director of Guizhou Drug Control Commission and deputy head of Guizhou Public Security Department, made the drug control report of the province in 2001. At the meeting, advanced counties, cities, and units achieving outstanding work performances in drug control were awarded.

May 27 Guizhou Public Security Department applied to the People’s Government of Guizhou for the examination of the Regulations on Drug Control in Guizhou (draft). The regulations were passed and released at the standing committee meeting of the National People's Congress of Guizhou on September 29. The regulations would take effect on January 1, 2003.

June 26 Guizhou Drug Control Commission held a public sentence and drug destruction meeting attended by 12,000 people at the new stadium in Guiyang. Jiang Yanhu, secretary of Guizhou Politics and Law Commission, deputy director of Guizhou Drug Control Commission, and head of Guizhou Public Security Department, and Wang Zhengfu, vice governor and deputy director of Guizhou Drug Control Commission, attended and addressed the meeting. At the meeting, 12 drug criminals were sentenced, more than 400 kg of various kinds of drugs were destroyed, and over 10,000 people participated in the signing activity to show their determination to stay away from drugs.

2003
April 22-23 The provincial-level on-site meeting themed at “creating a drug-free environment for the return of pure land” was held in Fenggang County and Dejiang County respectively. Wang Gang, deputy director of the office of the National Drug Control Commission and deputy head of the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Public Security Ministry, Chen Xufu, leader of the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Public Security Ministry, and division head Chen Xingyou attended the meeting and provided guidance.

2004
May 18 Guizhou Public Drug Investigation & Experience Exchange Meeting was held in Xingyi.

May 26 Guizhou Key Drug Control On-site Meeting was held in Kaili. At the meeting, the drug control mode of Kaili, featuring removing the root causes and emphasizing drug control despite of shutdown of economic sources, was asked to be promoted throughout the province.

May 27 The meeting on prioritizing crackdown in counties with over 1,000 drug addicts was held in Kaili.
