Slovenian PM meets Chinese defense minister on cooperation

LJUBLJANA Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's Prime Minister Janez Jansa met visiting Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie in Ljubljana on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Jansa said his country regarded China as its strategic cooperation partner and highly values its cooperation with China on defense and military.

He said that the relationship between Slovenia and China has been developing smoothly in recent years, adding that both sides enjoyed frequent political dialogues and close cooperations in various sections.

The official said Liang's visit, the first Chinese defense minister to visit Slovenia, has a historic significance that will not only deepen co operations of both sides on defense and military but also promote overall ties of the two countries.

Liang, who is also a state councilor, said that China regarded Slovenia as its main partner and attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations between them.

The defense minister said Chinese army is willing to increase exchanges and co operations with Slovenia's side to take the military ties to a new level so as to make positive contributions to comprehensive development of relations between the two countries.

Earlier on Wednesday, Liang also held talks with his Slovenian counterpart Ales Hojs. During the talks, they exchanged views on bilateral military cooperation, regional security situation, as well as other issues of common concern.

Liang arrived in Ljubljana on Tuesday for a three-day official visit. He has been the first Chinese defense minister visiting Slovenia since the establishment of their diplomatic ties 21 years ago.
