Tie Fuqing, 10, a third -grade pupil of Wanquan primary school in Datong, Qinghai. His New Year wish: I want to have a fairy story book. (Xinhua/Zhang Hongxiang)

Edited and translated by Wang Xin, People's Daily Online

In a rural village with 400 households in the mountains in Datong, Qinghai, most children are left behind and taken care of by their grandparents, because their parents have gone to cities for work for years. Only in the Spring Festival or harvesting season, can their parents have a chance to come back to home and spend a few days with their children.

These left-behind children obviously miss their parents and want to live with them, but they are far from being loved. In the new year, they expressed their wishes and hopes.
