With the imbalance of sex ratio and rapid development of society, the problem of love and marriage has become a major issue drawing attention. The "Research Report on View of Love and Marriage of Chinese Youth in 2012 and 2013" was jointly released by the National Population and Family Planning Commission and a dating site recently, collecting about 77,000 samples to discuss about the hot topics of love and marriage.
The report shows that men are more eager for marriage and easier to accept trial marriage than women. Beginning from the first date, the male respondents think they should get married after 11.4 months on average while the female respondents think 13.3 months are more appropriate. 86 percent of men would like to live together with their girlfriends before marriage but only 36 percent of women are willing to do so.
Song Yumei, a counselor at a psychological consult center of Beijing, said that premarital cohabitation can be seen as an experience for men but few women approve such behavior because it has a lot of uncertainties. Although the time for love is not a standard of marriage, it cannot be ignored because the mutual understanding and stormy period before marriage directly relate to their married life.
It is traditionally believed that younger people are more open to sexual matters, but the survey showed the opposite. It has found that women born in the 1970s are more open to sex activity than those born in the 1980s or 90s, and men born in the 1970s are most eager to have sex with women. Lovers born in the 1990s tend to hold hands, hug, and conduct other acts of romance shortly after establishing a relationship, but they are relatively cautious about sex.
