Located about 100 kilometers east of Urumqi City, Tianchi Lake scenic area in the Tianshan Mountains is a 5A tourist attraction, one of the highest level scenic areas as classified by the China National Tourism Administration. Xinjiang is home to many ethnic groups and the Kazakh ethnic group is one of them. With the ongoing surge in tourists, the Kazakhs living at the Tianchi Lake scenic area have bid farewell to their past nomadic life and have thrown themselves into the tourism industry, working as tour guides, performers, or street vendors at the Kazakh Folk Village where tourists are able to experience traditional Kazakh culture and customs.
