2 killed in central China factory accident

YICHANG, Hubei, May 20 (Xinhua) -- At least two workers were killed in an accident that occurred at a factory in central China's Hubei Province, the local fire department said Monday.

The accident happened at 11 a.m. at a factory owned by Yichang Marine Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. in the city of Yichang.

Mechanical equipment weighing 200 tonnes fell to the ground after a cable suspending the equipment in the air snapped, crushing several workers, the fire department said.

Several injured workers have been taken to local hospitals. The exact number of injured is unknown.

An investigation into the incident is under way.
