Blast rips through E China explosive plant, casualties unknown

JINAN, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A blast ripped through an explosive manufacturing plant in east China's Shandong Province Monday morning, sources with local fire department said.

The explosion occurred at around 11 a.m. at the plant in Caofan Township in the city of Zhangqiu, the sources said, adding that some buildings at the site collapsed.

The casualties are still unknown. Rescue work is underway.
