The apparent end of Xie Yan's world came in 2006, when bone cancer robbed him of the use of his legs and left him relying on crutches and wheelchairs for the rest of his life.

However, the former IT specialist managed to step out of the trauma within a couple of months and establish a program to help disabled people, especially those with visual impairments, improve their occupational skills.

"People are constantly facing various hardships as disastrous as Doomsday. Once they overcome the psychological barriers, they will everyday brace for a brand new life," he says.
