An army aviation brigade under the Chengdu Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) carried out multi-helicopter flight training in combined tactical formation on December 12, 2012 at an airport in southwest China's Sichuan province.
According to Li Guo, commander of the brigade, pilots should complete a total of more than 20 highly-difficult actions in each take-off-and-landing, which not only tempered their helicopter operation-and-control capability under limit conditions, but also tested the helicopters' boundary combat performance.
"Those who have more knowledge about the helicopters' boundary combat performance will have more chances to win," said Li.
"Almost every action challenges the limit of the pilot and the helicopter itself," said Tang Chun, deputy chief of staff of the brigade. It is not easy for the pilots to fulfill these highly-difficult subjects, because they have to forecast and predict various kinds of possible special situations during the flight based on the ground simulation flight and make detailed precautions for special situations including malfunction of flight control system, failure of one engine and complex weather, Tang added.
Bone-chilling cold, but lots of fun!
