Wu Shengli, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and commander of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with Tomasz Mathea, the visiting commander of the Polish Navy, on the afternoon of December 17, 2012 in Beijing. Wu Shengli said that the traditional friendship between the Chinese and Polish people has been increasingly deepened since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries 63 years ago. The bilateral relations have developed healthily and rapidly and ushered in a new and important development opportunity especially since the bilateral strategic partnership was established last year. In recent years, the relations between the Chinese and Polish militaries have developed rapidly as evidenced by the fact that the bilateral cooperation in such fields as high-level reciprocal visits, medical and health exchanges and student exchange has maintained good momentum of development and such exchange programs as working dialogues between the two national defense ministries, bilateral military medical conferences and goodwill visiting-group exchange have gradually been mechanized, which have effectively promoted mutual understanding and deepened exchanges between the two militaries, and made important contributions to new development of the relations between the two countries.

Wu Shengli hoped that the two navies would seize the opportunity to enhance exchanges and cooperation in various fields, maintain a good momentum of reciprocal visits among leaders of the two navies, promote reciprocal visits among warships of the two navies, and carry out exchanges among academies and young officers. He also invited Polish naval cadets and young officers to China for study and participating in training voyage.
