There are several temples at the Longmen Grottoes, with Xiangshan Temple being the largest and the earliest built. It is located in the midsection of the east hill (Xiangshan Hill). The temple was reconstructed sometime in 1707 during the Qing Dynasty, patterned on an old temple that existed there. Restoration and expansion of the temple were carried out in 2002, finally bringing back the grottoes’ former glory and religious vibe.
