Recently, two villages in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Kashgar Prefecture in southwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region have been connected to the power grid, and more than 700 herdsmen from 153 households have said goodbye to power shortages. Farmers and herdsmen mostly rely on herding for a living. Because of the natural conditions of the Pamirs Mountains, villagers used to depend on small hydropower and photovoltaic panels to generate power, which were not enough to meet their needs. Due to the lack of maintenance of photovoltaic panels, some villagers' equipment can only provide a few hours of light use.
