
On October 16, 1964, China exploded its first atomic bomb. Three years later, on June 17, 1967, China successfully tested its first hydrogen bomb. Tens of thousands of researchers and scientists devoted themselves to China's space program, which helped increase China's scientific and defense capabilities and contributed to growth in China's national strength.
