Seoul (People’s Daily) – The top nuclear envoys of South Korea and China will meet in Seoul on Friday to discuss North Korea's nuclear program and bilateral relations.

South Korea’s foreign ministry said, Lee Do-hoon, the special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, will meet with his Chinese counterpart Kong Xuanyou.

"The meeting will be held as part of efforts to enhance strategic communication on North Korea's nuclear issue in line with the agreement reached at the leaders’ summit between the two countries last year," South Korean foreign ministry spokesman Noh Kyu-duk said at a regular press briefing, Yonhap news reported.

Noh also said that the two sides will share their assessments of the situation on the Korean Peninsula following the North's announcement at a New Year's Day speech and hold in-depth discussions on their future plans.

In his New Year's Day speech, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un proposed talks on the North's participation in the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea next month.
