ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Seven people have been detained in connection with a Sunday road accident that killed 12 people in central China's Henan province, local authorities announced on Friday.

The managers of a local transportation group that operated the bus, as well as its driver, are among those detained, the Minquan county government said.

The accident occurred at 11 a.m. Sunday, when a bus carrying 34 people heading to the provincial capital of Zhengzhou ran into an electric bicycle, hit a tree and then fell into a pond in Minquan.

Twelve people died, including the cyclist. Eighteen of the 23 injured passengers have been discharged from the hospital thus far, said the statement.

An initial investigation showed that the bus driver's improper driving caused the accident.
