BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) officials attending a workshop on Monday were asked to face up to tough problems in promoting reform and development and maintaining stability.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the closing ceremony of a high-profile workshop attended by new CPC Central Committee members and alternate members elected at the 18th CPC National Congress in November.

Using the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress as their guide, he asked senior officials to effectively handle pressing problems that the public wants solved as well as serious issues that challenge the CPC's development.

The workshop, which opened on Saturday, was aimed at helping senior officials improve their understanding of the outcome of the Party congress.

Liu encouraged officials to carefully study the report delivered by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the congress, the newly-amended CPC Constitution and recent speeches by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

They should transform the congress guidelines and goals into more practical tasks, based on the reality of different regions and sectors, and work out policies and measures to promote scientific development and social harmony, he said.

Senior officials should set the example of studying and implementing the spirit of the congress, he said.
