CPC leader calls for getting Party, public voices better heard

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Friday called for more efforts to get the voices of the Party and the public heard when addressing a national meeting on publicity work.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a national meeting attended by CPC publicity department heads from across the country.

Efforts should be made to "consolidate and strengthen healthy and upbeat mainstream ideology and public opinion" and "get the messages of the Party and the government well delivered and the voice of the general public better heard," he said.

Amid diversified social ideologies and a media structure undergoing profound changes, Liu asked officials to have "an appropriate stance, a clear viewpoint and a firm attitude" in publicizing the Party's basic political policies and important principles.

"Problems are the voice of times," he said, urging publicity officials to be quick in determining, studying and responding to problems and actively promote solving problems.

He also called for deepening reform of the cultural sector during the meeting, saying overall planning from the top level should be enhanced to make reform measures more scientific and coordinated.
