China has donated 15 presidential vehicles to Sierra Leone in support of the country's preparations for hosting the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, further demonstrating the growing friendship and practical cooperation between the two countries.

The donation was confirmed on July 4 by Presidential Press Secretary Yusuf Keketoma Sandi, who described the gesture as a significant boost to Sierra Leone's logistical readiness for the high-level regional summit.

Sandi said an official handover ceremony for the vehicles will be held at a later date.

According to Sandi, the Chinese government's support reflects the deepening comprehensive partnership between China and Sierra Leone. He said the partnership has continued to expand through cooperation in infrastructure, health care, education, agriculture, transportation and capacity building.

The ECOWAS summit is expected to convene leaders from across West Africa to deliberate on key regional issues. These include peace and security, economic integration, democratic governance, trade, infrastructure development, climate resilience and other strategic priorities aimed at promoting sustainable development and regional prosperity.

Sandi said President Julius Maada Bio, who currently serves as chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, warmly welcomed the donation and expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its continued support.

He quoted the president as describing the donation as a practical demonstration of China's enduring friendship with Sierra Leone and its commitment to supporting both the country and the broader West African region.

According to Sandi, President Bio believes the vehicles will contribute significantly to the successful organization of the ECOWAS summit by enhancing transportation arrangements for visiting leaders and official delegations.

The donation also underscores China's longstanding commitment to supporting Sierra Leone's national development agenda through mutually beneficial cooperation and practical assistance.

As Sierra Leone prepares to host the regional summit under President Bio's ECOWAS chairmanship, the Chinese donation is expected to enhance the country's hosting capacity. It also symbolizes the enduring friendship and expanding cooperation between China and Sierra Leone, as well as China's continued support for regional peace, integration and sustainable development in West Africa.
