SHIJIAZHUANG, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Yu Luming, former vice chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, stood trial for bribery at the Intermediate People's Court of Zhangjiakou in north China's Hebei Province on Thursday.

Yu was accused of taking undue advantage of his various positions in Beijing between 2001 and 2019 to seek profits for others regarding the handling of land-use rights and contracting of hospital projects, among other matters. In return, Yu accepted money and valuables worth 10.5 million yuan (about 1.52 million U.S. dollars), according to prosecutors.

During the trial, prosecutors presented their evidence. The defendant and his defense counsel cross-examined the evidence.

In his final statement, Yu pleaded guilty and expressed remorse. The sentence will be announced at a later date.
