Established in the 1950s, Shihezi, about 150 km northwest of Urumqi, is a young city in the Junggar Basin of northern Xinjiang. Along with Urumqi, Shihezi is one of the most important educational centers in Xinjiang. Equipped with the most up-to-date teaching and scientific research facilities, Shihezi University is one of the most prestigious universities located in the region. Seeking to promote exchanges with nearby countries, Shihezi University has also opened an international program that offers opportunities for foreign students to study in China.
