Guangxi develops industries that cater to local conditions in poverty-stricken areas

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous region, heavily inhabited by China''s most populous ethnic minority Zhuang and many other minority groups, has long been plagued by poverty. It has been a major front in China''s anti-poverty campaign that aims to eradicate absolute poverty by 2020. The region has made significant progress in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. Statistics from the regional poverty-relief office shows that Guangxi lifted 1.25 million people out of poverty and delisted 1,268 poor villages in 2019. Industrial development is the key to poverty alleviation. The remarkable achievements Guangxi has made in recent years are mainly attributed to its unremitting efforts to develop poverty relief industries. Developing industries that cater to local conditions and can deliver long-term benefits in poverty-stricken areas have been highlighted in Guangxi''s anti-poverty campaign. Industries like tea, Chinese herbal medicines and fruits plantations have developed rapidly in poverty-ridden villages, creating job opportunities for farmers to boost their income and growth momentum for impoverished areas to develop further. On the march towards common prosperity, no one must be left behind. To win the battle against poverty, the region is committed to helping the poor develop industries that could grow in a sustainable manner, setting up sustainable mechanisms for poverty alleviation, and creating driving forces for them to achieve prosperity.
