When Olympic test event meets Spring Festival

An event to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival and the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup recently kicked off in Zhangshanying town near Yanqing District in Beijing.

The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup will be held in Yanqing District in about 30 days, and is one of the test events ahead of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

As part of the event, nearly 200 people gathered to see in the Spring Festival, which falls on Jan. 25, including construction workers for Winter Olympics projects, volunteers and residents in Zhangshanying Town.

While villagers outside the house banged gongs, played the drums or did the Yangko dance, those inside made 2,022 dumplings with 10 kinds of stuffing to express their best wishes for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Meanwhile, participants of the event could also make traditional handicrafts such as drawing pictures with seeds and cereals and making paper cuttings.

During the activity, Heilongmiao Village in Zhangshanying Town will stage folk performances such as stilt-walking and the Yangko dance every day from January 17 to February 8.

As well as learning about traditional Chinese customs, visitors can appreciate ice lanterns, enjoy the ice and snow carnival in the International Grape Exhibition Garden, and play winter sports at Shijinglong Ski Resort.
