Over the past 3,000 years, numerous people – from emperors and the noble to civilians and common folk – have contributed to Chengdu’s development and prosperity. Sichuan cuisine, Sichuan opera, tea houses, mahjong, the old high streets, modern ring roads, and new-style education all present the charm of the city.

After 3,000 years of change, today's Chengdu sees a plethora of new buildings springing up, together with prospering commerce and developed transportation that closely links the city with the rest of the world.
