This year marks the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, and it is also the 9th year that giant pandas Kai Kai and Xin Xin have lived in Macao. Over the past nine years, cooperation between the two places in panda breeding, scientific research and protection, public education and other fields has deepened.

The city has also witnessed the birth of Jian Jian and Kang Kang, the first pair of giant pandas born in Macao. Their smooth birth and healthy growth not only indicate that Macao has made breakthroughs in giant panda breeding, but also represent the intimate friendship between the two peoples.

Zhou Shuyi, from Macao, is the local keeper in charge of the giant pandas. Since the Panda House opened, she has been involved in looking after and breeding the pandas.

"I witnessed Kang Kang being born, who weighed just 53.8 grams at birth. I have also seen Jian Jian and Kang Kang learn to climb a tree for the first time. When they successfully climbed down from the tree, they looked at me happily. Zhou said the memories moved her. Even if it wasn't easy to care for them, "it was worth all the hard work to see them grow up healthily."

"In June this year, I came to Macao to work. I get on well with my colleagues in Macao. When it comes to the city itself, although the climate and diet are different from that of Chengdu, my hometown, I already love this beautiful place," said Zhang Lixing, a breeder at the base.

According to a relevant person in charge, giant panda breeding is not only based on scientific theory, but also based on practical experience in different situations. Macao has gradually developed a set of feeding modes suitable for giant pandas living the in city, and has achieved excellent results in the aspects of giant panda breeding, infant rearing, medical treatment, nutrition, behavior training and education. The healthy growth of Macao's giant panda family and the comprehensive and in-depth cooperation between the Shipaiwan Park and the panda base in the field of research all reflect the close collaboration between the experts and teams in both places.
