The route is an essential connecting line between the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway. The 671-km railway allows trains to run at 120 kilometers per hour and transport 30 million tons of cargo each year.
The railway marked the formation of a ring-shaped railway network in northwest China, and could promote the rapid development of the region.
