Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the northwestern part of Qinghai Province, Hoh Xil is the largest and highest plateau in the world, famous for its natural beauty and biodiversity.

Human beings created civilization, but civilizations have also destroyed the wilderness. Hoh Xil is the greatest remaining wilderness in China, when there is little left to help wild animals and plants survive. There are not only Tibetan antelopes here, but also hundreds of bird and animal species, in addition to abundant vegetation.

In China, there are about 60,000 Tibetan antelopes living in the Hoh Xil region. The adult male antelope have dark faces with shiny black horns that rise almost vertically from the top of the head, prominent under the snowy mountains. They are known as "snow elves".

In July 2017, Qinghai Hoh Xil was added to the World Natural Heritage List.
