Lighten Up Copenhagen is a major cultural event which has been held in Denmark by the Chinese Embassy in Denmark, KBH-K, VisitDenmark and other local partners for three consecutive years. Lighten Up Copenhagen 2019 is held from Feb. 1 to 24, when there are a series of events held in Copenhagen. As part of the Copenhagen Light Festival, Lighten Up Copenhagen 2019 has added new flavor to Copenhagen’s famous business area.
Hundreds of Chinese style lanterns are hung alongside Strøget in central Copenhagen between Feb.1 and 24. Furthermore, Chinese Gong Drum Marching will be held in Copenhagen central business area during Feb.15-19, during which time there are also Chinese cultural Heritage workshops held in Illum. Chinese red envelops including good wishes for bringing luck to Danes will be handed out during the ‘Fu’ shopping festival as part of the Lighten Up Copenhagen 2019.
According to Chinese tradition, the New Year celebration will start from eve of the new year and last until the Lantern Festival which will fall on the 15th day of the 1st month of lunar calendar. On Feb. 15, Lighten Up Copenhagen-Lantern Festival Celebration will be held at the square of Copenhagen City Hall. During the celebration, there will be a Chinese Gong Drum show, a lion dance, a dragon dance, a Taichi show and a chorus presented to the Danish audience.
Aiming to share happiness and joy, Lighten Up Copenhagen 2019 will provide local people and tourists with special experiences found in the Chinese festival culture. (Jia Li)
