The world’s highest power transmission project was recently completed and went into operation on Nov. 23, 2018, in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, Economic Daily reported.
The project plays a vital role in boosting economic growth and poverty alleviation. With the village now connected to a brand-new power grid, power cuts are a thing of the past for locals.
The project included the construction or upgrade of substations and transmission lines. The average altitude of the project was more than 4,000 meters, and the mileage of cargo transportation has exceeded 10 million kilometers.
Construction in the region is hugely complicated, due to the area's fragile eco-system. To reduce the negative environmental impact, builders have implemented nearly 1,000 transportation cableways with a total distance of 1,200 kilometers. In addition, the line takes a detour of more than 20 kilometers to protect the stunning Nujiang Highway of 72 Turns, Midui glacier, and other famous scenic spots.
