Guangzhou showcases its charm at Summer Davos Forum

The 2018 Guangzhou Night was held during the Annual Meeting of the New Championships 2018, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, on Wednesday night in northern China’s Tianjin.

The activity, hosted by Cedar Holdings and directed by the municipal government of Guangzhou, showcased the perfect combination of tradition and modernity, exhibiting exquisite high-tech designs.

The vigor and vitality presented by the flower city and thousand-year-old commercial city left deep impressions on the guests.

The activity was attended by over 400 guests including President of the World Economic Forum Børge Brende, vice mayor of China’s Tianjin Municipality Zhao Haishan, mayor of Dalian Tan Chengxu, global enterprise executives, senior government officials and social elites.

The guests, together with the mayor of Guangzhou Wen Guohui, and executives from enterprises in the city such as Cedar Holdings, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd, Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Yuexiu Group and Lingnan Group, enjoyed the display of Lingnan culture and drew the blueprint for Guangzhou’s development.

Guangzhou, as a major city along the Belt and Road and one of the central cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, features openness and innovation, said mayor of Guangzhou Wen Guohui, when addressing attendees at the event.

The city boasts a long history and profound culture, an efficient and convenient traffic network, highly concentrated innovation resources, a market-orientated, internationalized and legalized business environment, as well as an urban environment suitable for living, working and traveling, Wen noted.

Guangzhou now actively participates in construction of the Greater Bay Area, promoting construction of the national central city to a new level, and striving to build itself into an international metropolis, guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and implementing the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Wen explained.

In his speech, the mayor invited guests to come to Guangzhou, experience and start up business in the city, and share the “Guangzhou opportunity” for development in the new era.

The Guangzhou Night, as an important stage to spread the Guangzhou voice and show the city’s charm, presents unique Lingnan culture to guests every year.

2018 marks the fourth consecutive year that Guangzhou has joined the Summer Davos Forum. The 2018 Guangzhou Night, with the theme of “Vibrant Guangzhou to Bloom the World,” highlights the city’s image of innovation and vitality.

The “commercial city of Guangzhou” painting, hailed as the Lingnan version of the famous Chinese painting “Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival”, made its debut during the event.

The 20.15-meter-long painting fully exhibits the charm of Guangzhou over the past 2,200 years and the ancient city’s commercial history and distinctive culture.
