Explore the famous Ginkgo forests
These magnificent trees have been around for 1,000 years, and there are over 1,000 of them in a small, 3 kilometer squared area near Panzhou City in Guizhou. It’s easy to spend a whole day wandering between the Ginkgoes and surrounding forest, as you amble through the local village and trees which have grown around each other for centuries.
Being around living things so old bestows visitors with a sense of awe, and gives the forest a sense of timelessness. You can often hear local music and the hubbub of village life floating up through the forest as villagers go about their day. Locals here have set up businesses to export Ginkgo products including tea, nuts and even liquor, which you can buy on site to try if you need a quick pit-stop.
