Sierra Leone President expresses gratitude to the 19th batch of China Medical Team

Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio has expressed his country’s gratitude to the 19th batch of the China Medical Team to Sierra Leone before their departure. He assured the Team that the relationship between China and Sierra Leone will continue to grow, and requested that the Chinese continue their support to the West African country. The President granted an interview to the team leader of the 19th batch of China Medical Team, Dr. Liang Lihui and his Assistant, Dr. Xie Weibin. He commended the team for a job well-done in his country.

Sierra Leone’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo, presented certificates and awards to the Chinese Medical Team at the Sierra Leone held Annual Public Health Reception of 2018 held by the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown.

Since their arrival in June 2017, the 19th batch of the China Medical Team to Sierra Leone, which was dispatched by the Health and Family Planning Commission of Hunan Province, succeeded in overcoming the difficulties of poor natural conditions and shortage of equipment and drugs. They undertook the main medical treatment tasks in the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital and carried out a large number of local medical treatment activities which was difficult to implement. Over the past 13 months, more than 29,887 patients have been diagnosed and treated, and more than 300 complex operations have been completed. More than ten times of Volunteer clinics have been conducted for the local people from the senior professors of the Fourah Bay College of Sierra Leone University to the orphans in the SOS Children's Village, more than 2,000 people benefit from the volunteer clinical activities.

The medical team members have excellent medical skills and high medical ethics. The team leaders, such as Dr. Liang Lihui, has united the strength of the team. Team members have accomplished various tasks and are highly praised by the Sierra Leone government and the local people. The dedication and hardworking of the 19th batch of CMT not only deeply influenced the medical peers of Sierra Leone, but also widely spread by a lot of sierra people and media all over the west Africa.

The medical event of the 19th batch of China medical team profoundly expounded the spirit of Chinese Medical Teams throughout Africa as “tenacious, dedicated, saving lives with boundless love”, promoted the development of the public health care. The friendship and trust between the Sierra Leone and China has further enhanced.
