96-year-old man realizes dream of joining CPC

Lin Jiande has finally realized his dream of becoming a member of the Communist Party of China. On the morning of June 30, one day before the founding anniversary of the Party, a special oath ceremony was held for 96-year-old Lin, who has been voluntarily promoting legal knowledge for 31 years.

Lin, who was born in 1921, the same year the CPC was founded, is a native of Dongshan County in Fujian province. In 1987, he established a school at his own expense to promote legal knowledge among senior citizens. The school has trained over 2,000 students.

Because his eyesight is poor, Lin has to rely on magnifiers and glasses to read. It usually takes him one or two hours to complete an article. He carefully reads all articles about legal knowledge. "I can only do a good job in teaching the students after I thoroughly understand the knowledge," he said. Lin is the oldest man in Fujian who still insists on voluntarily promoting legal knowledge.

Last year, Lin was named a national model worker in legal education and promotion. In front of Chen Yunshui, the party secretary of Dognshan County, he voiced out his only wish: "I want to join the Party."
