On the evening of June 12, Typhoon Merbok landed on Dapeng Peninsula in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. The strongest winds reached speeds of 23 meters per second.
Heavy rain is predicted to last until June 14. After hitting Guangdong, the typhoon will continue on to Fujian and Jiangxi provinces. Residents are advised to stay alert for signs of secondary disasters such as flash floods and mudslides.
