An Analysis of the Color Usage in ‘V for Vendetta’ (3)

By Yang Jinxin (People's Daily Online)    13:16, April 13, 2017

Meanwhile, black is related with evil power. For instance, in English, ‘black cat’ is regarded as a symbol with bad luck and misfortune. In this film, all the governors were dressed in black suits, and most, if not all of their accessories were black. Also, apparently, black is the darkest color in all tints. On the eve of the revolution, it was raining while all people on the street were in black with black umbrellas. Here black represented the darkest hour before dawn, which created a desperate feeling for the audients.

To sum up, color use in this film not only creates a greater visual impact but also deepen its theme. What it contributed to this film is assignable and affords much food for thought.
