Photo taken on March 27 shows Halanuoer Lake in Dunhuang, northwestern China's Gansu Province. Water has reappeared in the lake bed, which was previously dry for more than 50 years, after the government spent billions of RMB on water conservation. As early as the 1720s, Halanuoer Lake - once the largest freshwater lake in Dunhuang - had started to shrink. By the 1970s, the lake had dried up completely.
