Border guards garrison China’s highest-altitude village

Photo shows eight border guards patrolling the Gangbu glacier in the village of Pumajiangtang in Shannan, Tibet Autonomous Region. The village, which sits at 5,373 meters above sea level, covers 1,200 square kilometers of land and earns the distinction of being China's highest settlement. The barometric pressure in Pumajiangtang is half that at sea level, and the annual average temperature is minus 7 degrees Celsius. Residents of the village live on average to be 49.5 years old.
