In addition to their duties carrying out scientific research, staff at Zhongshan Station have also given the premises a new look during their three-month tenure. Used oil tanks have been cleared and compressed, and now await transportation to China for disposal by the icebreaker Xuelong. Meanwhile, staff painted paper-cut patterns of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals on new oil tanks, which will now accompany tanks painted with Peking opera faces. What's more, staff members renovated the field in front of the station, creating a space for people to work and hold activities.
