A look at China's only army-run railway

A dedicated railway line in Jiuquan, Gansu province is the only line connecting Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center with the outside world. The railway is also China's only army-run line, though a highway leading to the launch center is currently in the works.

The railway is approximately 300 kilometers in length, with a total of 36 stops. It carries daily necessities to soldiers and officers, as well as transporting rockets and satellites to the launch center. One section of the railway is located on the outskirts of the desert, where the natural environment is quite harsh. Soldiers and officers have remained committed to their mission for 59 years, despite the tough conditions.
