Liang Guanglie holds talks with PNG counterpart

Liang Guanglie, state councilor and minister of national defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), held talks with Fabian Pok, the visiting defense minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG), on the morning of January 29, 2013 in Beijing. The two sides had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views on issues of common concern.

Liang Guanglie extended his welcome to Pok for his visit to China. He said that China and PNG have constantly deepened political mutual trust, unceasingly expanded economic and trade cooperation, and achieved fruitful results from the extensive cooperation in such fields as energy and resources, infrastructure construction, health and education since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Liang Guanglie also said that meanwhile, the relations between the two militaries have also constantly achieved new progress as evidenced by frequent high-level reciprocal visits, active personnel exchanges and constantly expanded cooperation in various fields. He expressed that the Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the PNG side to actively push forward the pragmatic exchange and cooperation between the two militaries and make joint contributions to regional peace and stability.

Pok said that PNG has been regarding China as an important partner in the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, the two countries have achieved fruitful results from the bilateral cooperation in such fields as politics, economy and trade as well as culture. The PNG side is grateful to the Chinese side for its long-term support and assistance. The PNG is willing to work together with the Chinese side to further promote the pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries and the two militaries and promote the friendly and cooperative relations between the two sides to a new high.

Before the talks, Liang Guanglie held a welcome ceremony for Pok and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the three services of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
