Another interpretation of U.S. strategy to return to the Asia-Pacific is to achieve a rebalance of Asia-Pacific strategy, which implies that its current strategy in Asia-Pacific zone is unbalanced. Is the structure and situation of Asia-Pacific strategy really unbalanced? The answer is yes.
Though it’s been over 20 years since the end of the confrontation between the two camps, the old military alliance of the U.S. from the cold war times still exists as usual in East Asia. The U.S. has hundreds of military bases in East Asia at China’s doorstep and deploys a large number of weaponry and armies, though with a whole Pacific distance away from the U.S. territory.
This has already been very unbalanced; however, the United States’ “rebalancing strategy” is still to further “re-adjust” its global deployment by centralizing its military forces in Asia-Pacific areas. Meanwhile, this strategy is going to strengthen the old military alliance, undermine the political foundation of the peace in East Asia, intensify the conflicts between China and its neighboring countries over the territorial sovereignty issues, build a united front against China, break the Pacific strategic economy partnership agreement and disrupt the original normal development of autonomous cooperation and regional integration process of East Asian countries
.
Apparently, the so-called U.S. rebalancing strategy is actually to further exacerbate the current serious imbalance.
We obviously won’t allow this to happen, therefore, must realize the real strategic balance in the Asia Pacific. The key is to properly handle the East Asia issues.
In politics, the East Asia affairs should only be in the charge of East Asian countries instead of being interfered by the external forces. East Asia should establish the regional safety mechanism of its own in order to solve the security issues of East Asia and East Asian countries.
In economy, China should actively promote the integration of East Asia based on independent cooperation and play a leading role.
In military field, China should expand safety room toward the west Pacific. In order to realize the Asia-Pacific strategic balance, China must strengthen its military deployment on its territorial seas and in west Pacific. Meanwhile, confronted with America’s intensifying it military alliance, China has no reason to fight single-handedly; it should form strategic cooperation with Russia and the PDRK.
China is not interested in seeking the global and Asia-Pacific hegemony, but must establish military superiority in some regions, making it undefeatable against the rival.
