ALGIERS, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Algerian army troops on Wednesday launched an operation against a group of suspected militants in the village of Mazar, in Tizi Ouzou province, some 130 km east of capital Algiers, leaving one militant killed, local media reported.
Citing security sources, TSA news website reported that the army troops launched the ambush after they collected tips about the passing by of a group of suspect militants in the region.
A militant was killed and a Kalashnikov was confiscated in the operation, the source said, specifying that this is the first militant killed in Tizi Ouzou in 2013.
On Sunday, an armed group attacked a municipal guard barrack in charge of securing a gas pipeline in the province of Bouira, killing three guards.
