BUCHAREST, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- A Romanian citizen, rescued a day before in the Algeria hostage crisis, died from wounds on Sunday, announced the Foreign Ministry in a release.
He was the second Romanian who died in the terrorist attacks in Algeria.
According to the ministry, the Algerian authorities on Sunday afternoon officially informed Romanian Embassy in Algiers about the death.
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced Saturday that one Romanian citizen was killed and four were rescued in the Algeria hostage crisis.
On Thursday, the ministry created a crisis cell after the Algerian authorities confirmed that Romania was one of the countries whose citizens had been taken hostage.
On Wednesday, an armed group assaulted the gas field and seized a number of workers as hostages. The day after, Algerian army launched an operation to rescue the hostages, which ended on Saturday evening.
The hostage-takers said they were retaliating against the French military intervention against rebels in neighboring Mali.
