FUZHOU, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- You Quan has been appointed secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), replacing Sun Chunlan, according to a decision announced by the CPC Central Committee on Wednesday.

You, 58, served as deputy secretary-general of the State Council and the head of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission previously.

Sun, 62, is currently a member of the political bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.

Zhang Jinan, vice head of the organization department of CPC Central Committee, announced the appointment at a CPC Fujian provincial committee meeting in the southeast China province.

Zhang said the personnel change was made based on an assessment of the overall position, the need of work, and the actual situation of Fujian's leadership buildup.
