Chilechuan grassland, located in Hohhot, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is emerging as a signature ecotourism destination, where rolling green grasslands, clusters of traditional yurts and distant mountains beneath a vast blue sky blend into a sweeping panorama.
A decade ago, the area was largely barren and covered with gravel. Targeted ecological restoration has since lifted vegetation coverage from under 20 percent to over 85 percent, and more than 70 species of plants and animals have returned. Grass yield, carbon sequestration capacity and oxygen production have all risen nearly twelvefold from pre-restoration levels.
Today, visitors can walk through the grasslands or cycle around nearby lakes, experiencing the romantic pastoral scenery described in ancient verse.
In recent years, local authorities have further integrated ecological conservation with tourism development and commercial activities, transforming natural resources into drivers of high-quality development.
