Understanding China Conference held in Guangzhou

GUANGZHOU, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The 2023 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou) is being held from Friday to Sunday in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, under the theme of "China's New Endeavors amid Unprecedented Global Changes -- Expanding the Convergence of Interests and Building A Community of Shared Future."

Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping and delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the conference on Saturday.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, also addressed the opening ceremony, which was also attended by He Wei, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Conference participants said the congratulatory letter scientifically analyzed the general trend of the world today. They noted that to understand China, the key lies in understanding Chinese modernization, conveying the message that China looks forward to working hand in hand with the rest of the world to realize global modernization that features peaceful development, mutually beneficial cooperation, and prosperity for all.

China has acted as a responsible major country and made significant contributions to resolving common problems and improving the well-being of humanity, the participants said, calling on all countries to expand their convergence of interests and lay a solid foundation for the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity.

The Understanding China Conference was initiated in 2013 and has become an important international platform for exchanges between China and the rest of the world. The 2023 conference was co-hosted by the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs and the Guangdong provincial government. It was organized by the Guangzhou municipal government and gathered more than 600 participants from over 30 countries and regions.
