Attic red-figure Kylix, Antikensammlung Berlin
This Kylix, a shallow two-handled wine drinking cup, was painted by the Brygos Painter, an ancient Greek Attic red-figure vase painter of the Late Archaic period. It depicts the moon goddess Selene driving her chariot across the sky with two winged horses. She can be seen wearing a nightcap, with the moon atop her head like a glowing crown. This Kylix is now being displayed in Antikensammlung Berlin, Germany.
In ancient Greek mythology, Selene is the goddess and the personification of the moon. She drives her moon chariot across the heavens.
