Central energy enterprise guarantees power support for epidemic prevention and control

To fight the pneumonia epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus outbreak, a Chinese central enterprise has responded to the call of SASAC by making every effort to guarantee power support to aid the prevention and control of the epidemic.

As of January 29, the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) has started four power units during the Spring Festival, generating a total of 9.8 TWh of energy.

Moreover, more than 20 large coal-fired power generating units are operating on the grid, generating wind power, PV power, hydroelectricity, thermal power, gas and biomass power. The stable operation of the 356,000 KW new energy PV project, and the commissioning of SPIC Jingmen natural gas project have further supported the prevention and control of the epidemic.

At 9:47 a.m. on January 26, unit 2, a project of China Power Dabie Mountain Power Generation Co., Ltd, which was launched by SPIC overnight was connected to the grid smoothly, providing power guarantee during the efforts to control the province's epidemic. It has also become the first thermal power enterprise with double engines fully operational in Hubei during the Spring Festival.

SPIC China Power Dabie Mountain Power Generation Co., Ltd. is located in the outskirts of Macheng, Huanggang, Hubei Province. Before the outbreak, the Company had shifted to the Spring Festival Holiday production schedule with only one power unit in operation, and some of its employees had returned to their hometowns for the festival. After the outbreak, the Company has been working even harder than before to ensure power supply as part of its efforts to prevent and control epidemic. The Company have established itself as one of the backbone power generation enterprises during this time.

During critical moments, party members and cadres have played a pioneering and exemplary role in fighting against the virus. The Company’s key personnel have stayed on the frontline and established an epidemic prevention and control organization. Cadres and staff in non-epidemic areas have given up their holidays and returned to work ahead of schedule. The personnel preparing for the expansion project have also taken the initiative to maintain the power units in operation.

With the guarantee of power supply, SPIC China Power has also made a thorough investigation on the health status of the staff on duty by collecting data and information from returning staff. Timely efforts have been put into coordinating the various roles and responsibilities of the staff, and knowledge in regards to epidemic prevention and control have been passed on to the team.

So far, SPIC China Power has published the contact information of the main personnel in charge while ensuring that their mobile phones are turned on around the clock, so that they can attend to the personal and professional needs of the staff involved. Furthermore, SPIC has ensured that all the units are ready to provide power supply as part of their efforts to “fight the epidemic”.
