In 2019, the average annual PM2.5 concentration in Beijing's atmosphere was 42 micrograms per cubic meter, the lowest since 2013. The number of good days was 240, with no serious pollution.
On Jan. 3, 2020, Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau released figures for the overall air quality of Beijing in 2019. Data showed that in that year, the four major pollutants in Beijing's air environment, including PM2.5, dropped significantly year-on-year, the air quality continued to improve, and there were more blue sky days.
According to the Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, the overall PM2.5 concentration in the city dropped by 53 percent in 2019 compared with 2013. As a megacity, it is very difficult for Beijing to reduce PM2.5 even by one microgram. The report also showed the determination and strength of the Chinese government in air governance.
