He Runmei (C) prepares dinner with two students in Sanlian Special Education School in Nanchang, east China''s Jiangxi Province, Nov. 21, 2019. He Xingwu, hearing-impaired, is a teacher in Sanlian Special Education School founded in 1994. Five years later, the founders passed away. For the sake of hearing-impaired children''s access to education, He determined to shoulder all the responsibilities within the school. His wife He Runmei, also hearing impaired, devoted herself to the school and started to take care of children''s daily life. Considering students'' family condition, the tuition fee has been minimized, yet, few students can afford it. To maintain the school''s daily operation, He and his wife have donated all their pension into the school. In 2005, He''s son He Biao gave up his previous job, followed his parents'' steps to become a voluntary janitor and devoted his bank savings into theschool. "I hope my humble effort may help my father support the school. I hope all students will benefit from the education, stay positive and live well into the community." With local authorities'' support and people''s help, the school operates in better condition and often receives various donations, moreover, many students are offered with job opportunities. He Xingwu also was awarded for his contribution. "The school will keep running as long as there is a hearing-impaired student, even if I''m gone, my son will carry the torch and keep the school in operation!" He said. (Xinhua/Peng Zhaozhi) |
